Faithful / Faith
1. consistent, constant, holds true to one’s promises, loyal.
2. having confidence or placing trust in God and His work.
Hebrews 11:1 (NIV) defines faith as “being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see. God gave his approval to people in days of old because of their faith.” God asks all men from the very first day of creation to trust Him or have faith in Him. Abraham was known for his great faith in God. Because of his obedient faith, God blessed Him with the title of “father” of the nation that Jesus was born from.
How many women do you know have struggled to bring a child into the world? So many women pray for a baby of their own. Hannah and Sarah were among this crowd, and because of their relentless faith in God’s promises, both were blessed by God with children. Hebrews is full of stories that remind us of great men and women of faith. Paul, the author of Hebrews, set out to encourage and challenge the faith of the Hebrew people. May we be challenged by these same words!
The characteristic of faith that God calls us to is a reflection of Himself: The Faithful God. He is the One who will not only provide a way to have a relationship with Him in Christ Jesus, but God will also provide all that we need for life and worship. As you worship, consider your faith in Him. Consider His faithfulness to you.
“…the believer has something better: faith sweeps away the refuge of lies, and the believer turns to his God, and says, ‘O God, you shall be my refuge.’” –George Whitfield
