Insight
Speaking to a large audience, D.L. Moody held up a glass and asked, "How can I get the air out of this glass?" One man shouted, "Suck it out with a pump!" Moody replied, "That would create a vacuum and shatter the glass." After numerous other suggestions Moody smiled, picked up a pitcher of water, and filled the glass. "There," he said, "all the air is now removed." He then went on to explain that victory in the Christian life is not accomplished by "sucking out a sin here and there," but by being filled with the Holy Spirit.

In the gospels, Jesus teaches about the Holy Spirit or the Great Counselor. He encourages his disciples by reminding them that they will not be alone when He is finished with His work on earth. Acts records the fresh presence of the Holy Spirit to all of Christ’s followers soon after his ascension.

We can’t live a Christ-like life without the direction and guidance of the Holy Spirit.

The gift of the Holy Spirit is a great source of comfort in the good times as well as the difficult. He reminds us and assures us that we are the children of God. The Holy Spirit is our greatest defense, along with the word of God, against the lies of the enemy. As we lead others to worship, may we not grieve the Holy Spirit, but only make room in our hearts for His Lordship and direction.

O Holy Spirit, descend plentifully into my heart. Enlighten the dark corners of this neglected dwelling and scatter there Thy cheerful beams. -Saint Augustine
