The word worthy is used in two different ways in the scripture.
1) God is described as worthy of our praise.
2) We are also called to walk in a manner worthy of the gospel.
When something or someone is considered to have great worth, that thing or that person is greatly desired. We encounter the desire for great things every day in the culture and world we live in. Whether it be a person, possession, or state of mind, we all have a deep yearning to possess what we think is of significant value and importance.
Because of who God is, and what He has done, He should be the thing of greatest worth in our eyes.
He is worth giving up our worldly desires.
He is worth laying down our lives.
He is worth letting go of the things of this earth that will one day perish.
When we cling to Jesus, we hold the thing that is of greatest value already. In Him, we are complete and made whole. No other possession or person can compare to what we have in Him.
As God is worthy of our praise, we are also called to walk in a manner worthy of our calling. In Ephesians, Paul urges the church of Ephesus to do just that (Ephesians 4:1). Because of who God is and how He has transformed our lives, we ought to walk in a way that represents His Name well. The Bible calls us to live our lives so that that Jesus is most glorified and lifted high. The way we act, talk, and live should reflect the one who we are living for. Our lives should be worthy of the gospel of Christ.
